LUSH, the Highstreet cosmetics brand, wanted to recreate their Spa experiences at home. GBD was invited to design a waterproof Bluetooth speaker to be used in the bath with an onboard lightshow.
LUSH had never before created an electronic product and therefore needed guiding through the design process and the decision making. As well as this LUSH’s ethical guidelines made material selection and design for disassembly & recycling a key consideration and an admirable challenge for the design team.
GBD worked closely with our electronic design partners, who provide electrical engineering support. The main USP of ‘Bath Bot’ is the ability to stream both music and lightshow via Bluetooth, making the lightshow unique to the tracks composed specifically for this device. This is unlike similar products on the market where the lightshow is randomised. The main challenge faced by the GBD team was making IP-X7 rated waterproof speaker without compromising sound quality. Multiple prototype iterations were made and rigorously tested in order to ensure a watertight design.
The final product ‘Bath Bot’ was the first tech-based product LUSH released and has therefore received a lot of press interest from around the world. Bath Bot was designed to be the same size as a standard bath bomb to carry over the brand aesthetic and be as compact as possible while providing great sound quality.
· Fits in with LUSH’s brand aesthetics
· Designed to have a low environmental impact
· Aligns with key ethical considerations
· Unique method of creating a lightshow from music
· Designed for disassembly and still IP-X7 rated
